Jaguar Land Rover developing off-road autonomous tech
It has just been revealed that Jaguar Land Rover is currently working on developing new technologies, to allow for off-road vehicles to benefit from autonomous features.
Driverless cars have not yet been introduced, yet carmakers are already working on ways to improve the technology behind them, and widen their appeal.
The response has so far been quite mixed. Whilst some are excite about the possibility of sitting in front of the wheel of a car, without having to do anything, a large number of people are concerned about the many safety issues the introduction of self-driving cars.
As you might be already aware, standard autonomous vehicle are currently getting tested all over the wold, with hopes of them someday becoming road legal.
Jaguar Land Rover’s announcement comes at a perfect time, as the whole industry is talking about the future of driverless cars. The manufactures that get involved will be at the forefront of this new chapter in automotive history. On top of that they will secure themselves spots in the market, potentially becoming market leaders in the driverless sector.
We know that the likes of Uber and Google are getting involved, developing their own technologies for future cars.
What’s interesting about Jaguar Land Rover’s involvement in the market is the fact that we haven’t seen any autonomous off-road vehicle just yet.
Whilst passenger cars and public transport, such as buses and taxis, have been mentioned in the past, when talking about autonomous tech, no manufactures have focused on off-road cars.
Since, it’s what Jaguar Land Rover is renowned for, there is no surprise it is attempting to tackle the sector.
It’s not clear how high the demand would be for off-road driverless cars; however, we might find out soon enough, as the brand seems to be pretty serious about it.
Much hasn’t been revealed yet, details-wise, but considering there are still many things that need to be worked out before autonomous cars make it to our roads, it’s probably going to be a while until we see Jaguar Land Rover’s plans materialise.
