Follwoing a recent statement released by the brand, which referred to the market as an “opportunity”, it is speculated that Peugeot Citroen is preparing to launch an all-new pick-up truck
Due to the pick-up truck market’s recent growth in popularity, brands are beginning to take it a little more seriously. Although pick-up trucks experienced great success in the past, they became less popular as time progressed.
In the recent years, the demand for pick-up’s began to grow however, with more manufacturers bringing out their own trucks, resurrecting the market in effect.
Much hasn’t been revealed about the project, and although it’s likely to happen soon, the brand hasn’t actually announced the vehicle yet.
Although Peugeot has built a number of pick-up trucks in the past, it’s been over 20 years since its last pick-up, known as the 504, went out of production in Europe.
The recent platform sharing agreement with Toyota might be another indicator that something is in the works. At the moment, Peugeot Citroen is working on a new mid-size panel van that will share its platform with Toyota. It’s therefore reasonable to assume that the brand could also develop a new pick-up truck using the Japanese brand’s platform.
Toyota’s latest pick-up, the Toyota Hilux, is currently on sale in Asia with a UK release date scheduled for later this year. Although, the car received mixed reviews, it’s a great example of a solid modern pick-up truck.
Only time will tell whether the brand really is developing a new pick-up truck, however we’re very much excited about the possibility of it happening.
